The sins of the unbeliever against the Holy Spirit: Blaspheming
The Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is an insult to the Spirit of Grace
Mark 3:28-29 — “Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation”.
Matthew 12:31-32 — “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.”
Luke 12:10 “And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.”
“Verily, verily, or truthfully, truthfully . . .” The words of our Savior remove all sense of levity, what he speaks of is serious and the verity of God. “All sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter . . .”
What is blasphemy?
At this point, we need to define blasphemy. This verse from Luke gives us a clue as to what it is. The two phrases “who speaks a word against” and “who blasphemes” are parallel. Blasphemy, then, involves speaking a word against God. It is a verbal sin, one that is committed with the mouth or the pen. It is desecration of the holy character of God.
Blaspheming can involve insulting Him, mocking Him, or dishonoring Him. In a sense, it is the opposite of praise. Even casually using the name of God by saying, “Oh, my God,” as so many do, constitutes blasphemy.
We can be very thankful that the unpardonable sin is not just any kind of blasphemy, because if it were none of us would have any hope of escaping damnation. All of us have, at many times and in many ways, routinely blasphemed the name of God. Blasphemy is desecration of the holy character of God.

“They may utter . . . whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit . . . who speaks a word against.”
He names the sin. It is the sin of blasphemy. It is something that is done with words. It can be done aloud or silently. It can be done with the tongue or the pen or a computer. It is using words that blaspheme. But it is very specific, He does not say every form of blasphemy is unforgivable or we would all be lost.
We live in a culture that uses the name of God blasphemously. No sin is more serious. Any type of blasphemy is utterly wicked, BUT blasphemy of the Holy Spirit will NEVER be forgiven.
It is speaking blasphemously of the words of the Holy Spirit after he has spoken to you clearly about the person, work of Jesus. Jesus is saying to the Pharisee, you are on the verge of the unforgivable sin when you ascribe my work to Satan.
