Doing Good Things — Galatians 6:6-10

After addressing the dangers of legalism and libertinism, Paul now drafts the conclusion of the letter, filling it with practical wisdom. He reminds the readers that the ministry is first and foremost the Ministry of the Word. The teacher must teach the Word. Students must take that ministry seriously, supplying for the needs of the teachers so that they can concentrate on the important task of teaching the very Word of God.

In addition, all of us must be reminded that the Christian walk is a ministry of the Spirit. It is opposed to the designs of the flesh which is filled with the lie that our lifestyle neither matters nor will have repercussions for those who blatantly fall into the libertine lifestyle of flagrant sin. This fleshly lifestyle mocks God and causes the participant to decay. Instead, the faithful Christian, while not doing works to earn God’s favor, does works because he is grateful for God’s favor. It is not easy, however, but requires patience, strength, and timely awareness powered by the Spirit. While the believer is not saved by works neither is he saved without works flowing from his faith!
