Never Abandoned — 2 Samuel 17:15-29

At this point in the narrative, King David is on the edge of the Jordan waiting for news from his spy in the palace, Hushai. His life and the lives of his supporters are on the line and the nation is on the verge of civil war. Though things look bleak, God’s promises and commitment to His anointed, David, never waver. Through Hushai, the walking, talking answer to David’s prayer regarding Ahithophel and his wise counsel, the spy network, with danger and intrigue, supply David with a plan to avoid disaster.

As is so often the case, this plan handed down from Hushai to the priests to a maidservant to the sons of the priests with an assist by a faithful female supporter, requires action. This action in turn gives David purpose and he acts immediately and completely, saving his own life and his kingdom from Absalom. Even the needed provisions are supplied by God through unexpected supporters from forgotten or unusual allies or friends. We, too, whether in times of physical peril or spiritual danger, will not be abandoned by God. He is faithful!
