The Coming of the Prophet — Deuteronomy 18:15-22

Jesus was not some random baby born in a stable with a good background story and a simple celebration of new parents. He was God’s instrument to supply the solution for man’s biggest problem; our sin problem. And God told His people hundreds of years before Jesus came that He would send someone who would be His prophet, the epitome of a prophet, someone Who can say, “I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has Himself given me a commandment – what to say and what to speak. And I know that His commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me” (John 12:49-50).

The Shorter Catechism teaches, “Christ executes the office of a prophet, in revealing to us, by his Word and Spirit, the will of God for our salvation.” Rejoice in the coming of Jesus the Prophet!
