Leader of the Flock — Micah 5:1-6
In the great reversals Micah describes to his listeners, God reveals both near and far off themes in his weaving of the themes of justice and deliverance. While a time of just punishment has come to Judea in the siege of Jerusalem, God’s mercy is shown to a remnant. To the lame and the powerless, Micah has already promised a gathering of deliverance.
Here, some new details emerge that will have not only contemporary significance but some eternal implications. Details emerge that out of humiliation will come not just a reversal but an eternal King. Out of the small town of Bethlehem will come the strength of the LORD and peace. The triumph is not just for Micah’s day over Assyria but for the people who follow the Christ!
