Redeemed from the Curse — Galatians 3:10-14
Just the Galatians, we need to be reminded sometimes just how bad things are with Christ and just how good things are with Christ. The bad news is that when rely on ourselves and our works of the law there is no hope. As James reminds us, if we break one law, we break them all; and lawbreakers are under a curse. No one is justified before God because in order to receive the blessings of the law we have to perfectly obey the law.
The good news, however, is that life is possible. Unlike the law, faith brings us righteousness. Where the law only brings a curse because it exposes our unrighteousness, faith brings the righteousness of Christ. The best news of all is that this curse which the law brings is the very curse that Jesus Himself bore on the cross for those who through faith trust upon Him. By faith, not works, we are redeemed from the curse because Jesus became a curse (our curse). This is the best news! By faith we are redeemed from the curse of our lawbreaking sin.
