The Sword of the Spirit — 2 Samuel 12:1-15
Even the man considered the greatest king in the history of God’s people Israel would not turn from his sin apart from the Word of God! Through a parable that stirred the anger of David as he showed his love for justice, Nathan the prophet was sent by God to first stir up the “logs” in David’s eye as he pronounced justice on a hypothetical crime.
Then, perhaps the most famous words in David’s reign, “You are the man!” jolted his conscience and Nathan continued with God’s judgment upon his sin. Yet in the midst of discipline comes grace. David repented, God forgave, and the power of God’s Word once again convicted one of God’s people. Oh how we need the sword of the Spirit (God’s Word) to convict us of our sins!
