Understanding Sovereignty — 1 Samuel 16:1-13
As we begin a new study in the book of 2 Samuel and look in depth at Scripture’s glimpse of the kingship of David, it is helpful to have some context. Why David, after all? This text addresses that question clearly. It is not ABOUT David after all, but is ABOUT God.
When we understand sovereignty, we understand that Someone else is in control. It is God’s timing, God’s plan, and God’s king that will fill God’s purposes. Our role is to submit to God in all things and understand that following Him is not a matter of our agenda, our plan or our understanding but all belongs to the Sovereign. Whether of David or of His seed and line, Jesus Christ, it is God’s ways that shall prevail.
